There's more than one way to view the internet...

A lot of people are under the impression that the only way to go online & browse the internet is via Internet Explorer. This common misconception is partly down to the fact Microsoft bundle Internet Explorer within it’s Windows Operating system as standard.

There are a number of other ways to view the internet via various web browsers, all of which function in very much the same way as Internet Explorer, yet at the same time carry a number of benefits & surfer preferences.

Some new webmasters make the mistake of thinking that if you test for Internet Explorer then that is enough.

That isn’t true. Mozilla Firefox use is gaining a lot of ground so, for instance, if you don’t test for Firefox usage then you’ll miss out on a lot of good website visitors if your web pages don’t look the way you want them to. Even if you test for Firefox and IE you’ll still miss out on valuable traffic as there are other browsers that get quite a bit of usage.

Flock is popular among social media users so we wouldn’t leave that one out. Opera has a few unique features that make it attractive to a small minority of Internet users & is acually one of our favourites here at IbizaPC.

How do these web addresses or domain names work?

Registering a domain doesn’t automatically make your Web site appear when visitors enter your domain into a Web browser.

You have to upload your Web site to a computer that hosts the site and assigns a numeric address, called an IP address, to your domain – all of which are done for you by IbizaPC as part of the service.

Your domain and associated IP address are stored in a database with every other domain and associated IP address.

When visitors enter your domain into a Web browser, your domain works like an address forwarding service by forwarding visitors to the IP address where your Web site is stored.

We use domain names instead of IP addresses because most people find it easier to remember a name rather than a series of numbers.

Is it best to register .COM or .CO.UK domains?

This is a question we get asked a lot.

Domain names are relatively inexpensive to register, IbizaPC take the hassle out of this by doing all of this for you quickly and easily.

Our personal opinion on this issue is if they are available register both.
Our reasoning is as follows, we believe the .COM being the most internationally recognised global domain extension gives your brand a worldwide feel online & although your main aim may well be to do business all over the world, much like IbizaPC do, the .CO.UK has a more personal, closer to home feel for your UK based business.

At the same time if your online business truly does become the success you envisage, registering these domain extensions stops people from trying to take advantage of your hard earned success.

If you expect your site to be successful, register as many of the domain name variants you can afford, though if you want our opinion, we would suggest the .COM, .CO.UK and probably the .NET variations should they be available.

What we tend to do is host our clients on their .COM extension and forward the .CO.UK & .NET to the same address.

The same applies to our international clients.
For our Spanish clients we tend to register the .COM, .NET and .ES extensions.

Using the same logic for our Canadian clients we go for .COM, .NET & .CA and so on dependant on the country of origin.
